Here at N&R Publications, we have a deep commitment to education. Over the past decade, we’ve created 130 publications, digital series and videos for schools—and nearly half of those have been for California adult schools. Beginning in 2012, when adult school funding was threatened by state budget cuts, our publisher, Jeff vonKaenel, has offered his journalistic expertise to shape the narrative for what he believes to be one of the pillar’s of California’s economy: creating a highly skilled workforce that is free of student loan debt.
Today, that work continues as we tell new stories of vibrant and passionate adult school students and staff—and launch our dedicated adult school website. Our stories might encourage a young mother, new to the U.S., to join an English as a Second Language class at her child’s elementary school—and she will be able to help with his homework more and volunteer for his field trips. Our stories might connect a resident in the Central Valley to a new highly paid career as a welder that will raise up his entire family. The stories might also alert an employer to a custom-tailored training program for a new project he has not known how to staff for. Or convince a retired teacher to come back to the classroom to share her knowledge with a new group of students.
We are proud of California adult schools and hope this new website will reach more people who can improve their lives in an unimaginable way—just by connecting to their local public school campus.
