A strong adult education system is a priceless resource for any community. Through its many programs, Oakland Adult Career and Education (OACE) offers a hand up to anyone who needs one, regardless of where they’re starting from. Class offerings include:
- High school diploma, GED or HiSET preparation
- English as a Second Language (ESL) citizenship, college & career readiness and family literacy pathways
- Career Training Education (CTE) in healthcare, banking and construction.

“Adult ed is here to fill the gaps in the workforce, we’re here to fill the gaps in our education, particularly here in Oakland where we have a high drop-out rate. We’re here to fill those gaps and be a net to catch some of those people who might not otherwise be served,” says Kim Jones, OACE director. “We celebrate their success no matter how large or small. We’re a family, our classrooms are welcome to everyone.”
